Versatile performer lands big handicap hurdle prize

Local Hero claimed a deserved first victory of the year with a determined effort in the Betfred "The Bonus King" Summer Hurdle at Market Rasen. The Steve Gollings-trained five-year-old had failed to get his head in front since winning a Grade Two at Cheltenham in January 2011, but turned in some excellent efforts in defeat on the Flat and over jumps. Capably ridden by 10lb claimer Paul Bohan, the 9-2 chance made good headway to challenge for the lead rounding the final turn for home. Local Hero quickly stamped his authority on the Listed contest and while Kian's Delight finished strongly after the final flight, he could only get within a length and a half of the ready winner.

Big win

I Have Dreamed provided Lawney Hill with a big-race winner in the Listed Betfred Summer Plate Handicap Chase. The 9-1 shot exerted full authority two out after having been ridden with great poise by David Bass. Al Co (5-1 favourite) gave his many followers plenty of hope when he hit top gear after the final fence, but the Peter Bowen-trained seven-year-old was denied by a short head. Last year's winner Qulinton finished third, while Benbane Head was fourth.
