Daddy Long Legs finishes last

French raider Bayrir won the Grade One Secretariat Stakes at Arlington Park on Saturday for Alain de Royer-Dupre and the Aga Khan. The Medicean colt was sent off the 3-1 second choice of the punters and he swooped late under Christophe Lemaire to land the £189, 677 prize. Settled in the rear early on, Bayrir made his challenge down the centre of the track to get the better of Finnegans Wake and Summer Front. Aidan O'Brien won the contest last year with Treasure Beach, but his challenger this time around, Daddy Long Legs, finished last after briefly hitting the front on the turn for home. Royer-Dupre said afterwards: "I think he's a very good horse, he's very relaxed. He can wait, he has a good turn of foot and he's a very interesting horse."
