Ribbons could bid for more Group One glory in the Prix de l'Opera at Longchamp

Ribbons could bid for more Group One glory in the Prix de l'Opera at Longchamp on October 5 if conditions are suitable.

Connections of the James Fanshawe-trained filly are hoping for a wet autumn to allow the lightly-raced niece of the brilliant Soviet Song to get the chance to supplement her surprise victory in the Prix Jean Romanet at Deauville on Sunday.

"It was great. We all thought she wanted one mile, two. Obviously the ground was a key thing," said Dan Downie, racing manager for owners Elite Racing Club.

"I wouldn't say we were confident. We more nervous than anything, but we'd always liked her so we pitched her in and were delighted.

"We'd left her out of races this summer and withdrawn her at the last minute due to the ground. We'd got to the point where it was nice and we wanted to go abroad with her anyway so it all worked out well in the end.

"She's fine. We haven't got any firm plans yet. Obviously, the Prix de l'Opera on Arc day is a probability.

"We'll have a look and see. I remember a few years ago we had Border Patrol running in a Group One on Arc day thinking he'd get his favoured soft ground and it turned out to be quick.

"We'd be hoping we get a reasonably wet autumn for her. She's great, she's in good form and we're delighted with her."
