A review of the rest of the action from Goodwood as Rene Mathis got back in the groove with a big handicap success.

Bunbury Cup winner Rene Mathis bounced back to his best with a clear-cut victory in the 888sport Stakes (Handicap) at Goodwood.

Beaten twice since obliging at Newmarket's July meeting, Richard Fahey's five-year-old led over a furlong out and bounded away to go one better than he did in the corresponding race 12 months ago.

Enlace set the pace in the rain-softened ground but Rene Mathis (10/1) was never far away and was in no danger once George Chaloner asked him to go and win the race.

Jallota was beaten a length and a half in second place with Shared Equity a head away third and then winner's stablemate Farlow fourth.

Chaloner said: "The ground's gone in his favour today and he's done the job well.

"He's been really consistent this year. He was second in this race last year and always puts a good effort in.

"He's a genuine horse and he puts every bit of effort into his races."

Sky Bet cut the winner to 16/1 from 25/1 for the Ayr Gold Cup.

Sammy Jo Bell enjoyed her first winner at the track when partnering Imshivalla to victory in the Whiteley Clinic Stakes.

Despite the four-year old hanging left late on in the one-mile-one-furlong contest, the 10/1 shot had matters in control scoring by a length and three-quarters to complete a double on the day for Malton handler Fahey.

Bell said: "Sometimes she is a little bit awkward out of the stalls but she jumped out perfectly.

"She travelled great and picked up nicely. She is tough and in that ground she battled on well."

Perceus revelled in the rain-softened conditions when demolishing his rivals in the concluding Apollo Motor Group Stakes.

Having raced handily, the Marcus Tregoning-trained three-year-old ended his search for his first success with a seven-length victory in the mile-and-a-half event.

Michael Murphy, winning jockey, said: "He is a nice, progressive horse and was the form horse in the race. For a (son of) Sir Percy, he loves that soft ground."

Forgotten Wish (9/4) made her second visit to the track a winning one when gamely holding on in the Absolute Aesthetics Maiden Fillies' Stakes.
