Verdict

The archetypal cavalry charge handicap with endless chances. Banksea has clearly been laid out for this after landing the Newbury Spring Cup under an ice-cool Jamie Spencer and similar hold-up tactics are likely to be repeated though Spencer sticks with stablemate and Newcastle winner El Vip. The former looks one of the best chances of those drawn low along with George William, second to Fastnet Tempest in the Victoria Cup last time and better off at the weights with the winner here. Abe Lincoln is drawn on the extreme of the other wing and has been the major gamble of the past week, having been last seen when runner-up in the Britannia Stakes at last year's meeting. He has to be respected. Fastnet Tempest has shown a stylish turn of foot to oblige the last twice and Pat Cosgrave will have to decide which route to take from his central draw. He's very tempting but a 10lb rise for his last two wins may just prove too much while Tabarrak, Another Touch and Yuften make some appeal but a chance is taken at a big price on HORS DE COMBAT. A fast-run straight mile on good ground should suit admirably and at the current prices he makes plenty of each-way appeal with many layers offering more than four places.
