Verdict

A race no easier for the lack of numbers and with Donald McCain holding the lion's share of the entries at the five-day stage, he relies upon AAZIF. The four-year-old made light work of his rivals in two easy wins at Sedgefield and though he will have a double penalty to carry, he still appears to be on the upgrade. Kettlewell overjumped at the first at Newton Abbot and gave his rider no chance of staying on board. The fact that Tony McCoy is prepared to get in the saddle makes him very much of interest. Bob Tucker won a bumper at Worcester on his debut for Brendan Powell and ran a fair race under a winner's penalty at Doncaster. Wintered Well never saw the track when with Jonjo O'Neill, but he has shaped with some promise for Jennie Candlish. That said, he would need to leave behind a very moderate effort at Market Rasen earlier in the month.
