Verdict

Ralph Beckett saddled Talent to finish second in this two years ago and has persuaded the owners of Simple Verse, another filly, to supplement her. She won a Listed race over 1m6f at Goodwood in July and her trainer must think she has a decent chance of earning some nice prize money against the colts. But the Great Voltigeur has always been the best trial for this classic and Storm The Stars beat BONDI BEACH by half-a-length in that. The former is a classy sort having already been placed in the Derby at Epsom and the Irish equivalent at the Curragh as well as the Grand Prix de Paris. But the runner-up may have been a bit unlucky on the Knavesmire as he was hampered in the closing stages. He's already beaten stablemate Order Of St George - a winner twice since - over this trip at the Curragh so will relish the extra and can turn the York form on its head. Fields Of Athenry had to be ridden to get a prominent position in the Ebor from a wide draw so did well to finish fifth in the end. The last of the Ballydoyle trio, he's another who will stay every inch of the trip and can't be discounted but the others all have some improving to do.
