Verdict

Another tight contest with 7lbs splitting the field on official ratings. With the older horse's all looking exposed, this looks set to be fought out by the three-year-olds. Shell Garland has the highest B.H.B rating of these, but she looks to have plenty to prove after what looked a dismal effort at Beverley, where she did plenty of running around in front. However, she is entitled to improve and with Fallon taking over, she gets a narrow vote. Montmarte showed plenty of promise on her debut at Newmarket last year behind subsequent Guineas winner Russian Rhythm. A rangy filly, she looked as though she wanted time, so it was somewhat surprising to see her turn out the following week at Yarmouth, where she had little difficulty in landing a poor maiden. She has taken time to come to herself this year and wasn't disgraced on ground which could well have been soft enough for her at Beverley. Back on her favoured fast ground, she looks sure to have a big say in this. Of the older horses course winner Parisian Star comes here in decent form and it is interesting that he has never won before the end of June, so this is certainly his time of year, but wherever he finishes, Sienna Star will not be far away. Paul Cole's gelding was just a head behind Parisian Star at Bath and meets him on the same terms. Jack Dawson will probably need the outing and will surely find this trip an inadequate test, while both Tarawan and Analyze look to have too much to do on these terms, so Shell Garland, from the in-form Sir Michael Stoute's powerful yard is taken to enhance her paddock value.
