Verdict

No favourite has won this in nine years. Willie Mullins has won it four times in that period including last year when Djakadam beat My Murphy, who reappears on the same mark and will love the conditions. The champion trainer has four entries this time and the fact that Ruby Walsh is on board Ballycasey is significant though his mount hasn't run since May. Mouse Morris has a strong hand with Rule The World and Folsom Blue. The former is still a maiden over fences despite several very smart performances in top handicaps and Jack Kennedy's claim is a huge bonus while the latter still looks well treated despite a 5lb rise for his close third in the Paddy Power at Limerick. However, just in front of him that day was UCELLO CONTI, a regular winner in France and having just his second start for Gordon Elliott. It was a superb performance on ground he obviously loves and with more to come looks the one to be on. Elliott has three other entries and Mala Beach could prove best of them on his handicap debut. The Job Is Right ran well in the Paddy Power and had a run over timber subsequently so should be at his peak.
