In depth

Verdict

Donald McCain's DOUBLE HIT gets the vote in this bumper after a promising debut and he should prove too good for challengers Diklers Oscar and Barton Grey. Double Hit was second in a similar contest at Bangor on his first attempt at racing and stayed on well to finish clear of most of the field but came up against a potentially smart winner. This filly's breeding also holds her in with a good chance with relations including useful bumper and hurdle winners in addition to a smart two to three mile chaser and with that in mind she looks good. Dicklers Oscar disappointed under the favourites tag on her last outing at Perth but it's still two second places from two starts for this runner, who if anything, is still racing a bit green. She pulled her way into contention in that last outing, which left her nothing at the finish so if she settles better this time she's the danger. The Trevor Hemming's owned Barton Grey was second on her debut behind Santia, who then went on to run really well under a lot of weight to narrowly lose next time out. That will encourage connections of the four-year-old filly who will improve and definitely has a National Hunt Flat race victory in her and don't be surprised if it is here. Alflora Dora has to be respected on her seasonal reappearance for Alan King. Her only run so far was in a Cheltenham Bumper back in April when fourth and there should be more to come from this daughter of a fair chaser. Quoquille Des Sacart has performed relatively well under rules after landing a couple of point-to-points, while Nicky Henderson's Bahia Blanca is given a chance despite showing very little last season. Double Hit is the one to be on in the last.
