In depth

Verdict

Mark Johnston will of course have the new turf season on his mind, but he can have the perfect build up with Desert Omen set to land this event, Ruby Sunrise and Constructor look the obvious form rivals. The selection is making his racecourse debut, but will not have to be anything out of the ordinary to take this prize. He is by Desert Storm out of a Belfort mare, making him a half brother to the very smart sprinter Rich Ground. The market will provide clues to his readiness, but he looks the best option here. Ruby Sunrise made a very pleasing debut when third to Orchestration at Wolverhampton and should improve for the experience. Meanwhile Constructor showed improved form to chase home Star Magnitude here last month. Best of the rest should be Richard Hannon's Cayman Colony, but Desert Omen is from a yard well capable of getting a horse fit to run first time out and he gets our vote.
