A tough race to call with Star Empire, a Listed winner at Clairwood in August, given a poor draw. He'll do well at the Carnival but may have to wait for another day. French raider Zibimix landed handicaps at Longchamp and Deauville last year and ended the campaign gaining Listed status in the Provinces. He should be thereabouts as should another Gallic raider Gallahad, who has been imported from Brazil after finishing runner-up in a Grade 1 there in June. Spring Of Fame looks to have been saved for a campaign here after one good run last February but the experience and toughness of KAL BARG may prevail. Kieren Fallon takes the ride on the six-year-old who won twice at last year's Carnival and has returned to action in fine shape, just failing to catch Trois Rois on his latest start last month.
