The progressive handicappers ST MICHEL and Sweet Selection tried their luck in the Group 2 Doncaster Cup last month and the former finished five lengths ahead when third behind Sheikhzayedroad and Quest For More. Due to go up 15lb and 17lb respectively after today, Sir Mark Prescott’s colt can confirm superiority and land this prize. Dual purpose horses have won the last two renewals and last year’s winner Grumeti is back for more off a similar mark while David Pipe runs two with Salisbury winner Starchitect preferred to Ryan Moore’s mount Ennistown, who won over hurdles at Cartmel in August. Runner-up last year, Oriental Fox wasn’t far behind St Michel at Goodwood earlier but the latter’s stablemate Sea Of Heaven was beaten over today’s trip by Sweet Selection at Newbury in July.
