    Verdict

Sixties Icon is selected here ahead of Mashaahed and Lucarno. Last year's St Leger winner, Sixties Icon, looked better than ever when winning the Jockey Club Stakes on his seasonal return and, even though he was a disappointment at Epsom last time, we are prepared to forgive him that and he is the one that they all have to beat today. The Derby fourth, and King Edward VII Stakes runner-up, Lucarno, is a strong representative from the three-year-old ranks, while the 2006 King Edward VII winner Papal Bull has nearly six lengths to find on the selection based on Jockey Club Stakes form, although he is three pounds better off today. He was also behind Mashaahed in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown last time, so Barry Hills' runner has to be granted every respect, as does recent Listed winner Ivy Creek, Brian Meehan's Hardwicke Stakes fourth, Admiral's Cruise, and Godolphin's Laveorock, who has won two Group 1 contests in the last 14 months. For the selection, though, we will stick with Sixties Icon.
