In depth

Formwatch

Winning Venture Failed to win last season and is probably rated a little too high at present; stable in great form but this is a hot event.

Free Rider Ran best race last season over this course and distance; looks a light too high in the weights.

Persiano Seems better suited by a mile but did run well over this course and distance in July; may need this run however.

Welcome Friend (USA) Lightly-raced colt who won first time out last year but looks harshly handicapped on what he has achieved.

Smart Ridge Disappointing for Mick Channon last term and will need to improve to have any sort of chance in this race.

Continent Raced without success in France last season; likely to improve but best watched today.

Nothing Daunted Had training problems last season and will be a good feat if he can win this but interesting jockey booking and worth a look in the market.

Jo Mell Tough old buzzard who loves this trip; may need this outing.

Peartree House (IRE) Can run the occasional great race but is not one to trust with your rent money.

Celebration Town (IRE) Much improved performer last term and goes on any ground; could be nicely weighted here and could go close.

Red N' Socks (USA) Frustrating sort last year when winning just the once; ran a blinder on seasonal reappearance last year and is one for the list.

Calcutta Seemed to run into a black hole last season and will have to step up on reappearance run in Lincoln to be the jewel in the crown today.

Desaru (USA) Being beaten only five lengths in the 2000 Guineas did not help his handicap mark but this trainer knows how to revitalise his charges after a long losing streak.

Lord Pacal (IRE) Last run came on this track, this trip and on this ground when finishing a close 2nd to Social Contract; will probably win a decent handicap this year but not this one.

J R Stevenson (USA) Shock winner at Brighton and out of his depth here.

Mersey Mirage Not guaranteed to stay this trip and others preferred.

I Cried For You (IRE) Ran some decent races last year but has twice finished stone last on seasonal debut.

Parisien Star (IRE) Would prefer a longer trip.

Peruvian Chief (IRE) Tried at all sorts of trips last season and does not look good enough here.

Akeed (USA) May struggle for out of the handicap.

Premier Baron May struggle for out of the handicap.

Kingsclere Disappointed last season over middle distances and this or a mile could be his best trip; excellent jockey booking.

Duke of Modena Ran some cracking races last season especially over this distance; might represent some value for unfashionable trainer.
