Verdict

Captain Gerrard can land this Listed prize at the expense of Sailor At Sea, Cake and Toolittleyourlate to name but a few. Each of those to have seen the racecourse has visited the winner's enclosure at least once, and none have been as impressive as Captain Gerrard. Bryan Smart's youngster revelled in the rain-softened conditions in gaining back-to-back successes at Chester, and was then a creditable third on faster ground in the Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood. This drop down to Listed level is a big plus in his favour, and he gets the vote. Sailor At Sea is learning fast judged on his successes at Sandown and Bath, and the fact that he holds entries in both the Mill Reef and Middle Park speaks volumes. Cake has solid credentials, having finished fifth in the Queen Mary, and she showed battling qualities when landing a Listed prize at Newbury last time. Toolittleyourlate needs to step up on his Lingfield win to figure, but Kevin Ryan knows the time of day, and his colt has a Middle Park entry. Bespoke Boy, Carolina Belle and Roker Park add to a decent affair, with Captain Gerrard taken to come out on top, with his ability to handle the ground not in question.
