Verdict

Macorville is a real mudlark and so so should revel in the conditions to score, with Samurai Way and El Tango taken to give him most to do. Trainer George Moore has wisely decided to let Macorville take his chance here rather than go to Ascot, and with Kevin Darley taking over in the saddle, the four-year-old looks all set to get back to winning ways on his beloved testing ground. Just collared by Juniper Girl in the Northumberland Plate last month, he can also take advantage of the slight drop back in trip to prevail. Samurai Way is out to get the losses back after appearing to be a shade unlucky-in-running when narrowly beaten by John Terry at Newmarket a fortnight ago. That was on much faster ground though, and his sole success so far came in a maiden. He therefore needs to raise his game to trouble the selection, and a bigger threat may be El Tango. The German raider is proven on the ground and at Listed level, but has yet to race on these shores. Martin Dwyer sits on him for the first time, and the pair should go close. Not close enough to stop Macorville from gaining what can be a popular victory.
