Third in the race last year, SWINGKEEL followed in the footsteps of earlier winner Society Rock by coming back for another crack and winning well. This isn't an attractive race, and it didn't look as if the winner was too keen in the early stages as he was dropped out last. However under a very patient Ted Durcan he gradually made his way into the race as the wheat was sorted from the chaff ( runners' official ratings ranged from 69-105) before the turn for home. Although under pressure turning in, it was just hands and heels really and he was kidded into a challenge two furlongs from home. Once he got to Elyaadi he appeared to worry the mare out of it and he was comfortably on top at the line. He probably wouldn't have the class to win something like the Cesarewitch and a return to hurdles will probably be in the offing in the next year. The runner-up came with a winning run two furlongs from home, having travelled like a dream off the pace. However once she kicked clear she actually started to idle and eventually she was quite well held. Third home was Ajaan, who found more for pressure than Dayia. The former was pushed along before the turn for home but he ran a cracker on his reappearance. He was one of several who took the route under the trees and it may just have benefitted him and Degas Art somewhat. He ran well further back, showing that he's good enough to compete at this level, whilst Dayia travelled very strongly but once hitting the front her jockey Olivier Peslier seemed to let others ghost past; he knew that his horse had little more to offer. They were strung out like the washing in behind, with L Frank Baum the only other to show up well having made a bid for home turning in before getting tired.
