Newcastle United have agreed a £12m fee with Tottenham for England winger Andros Townsend.
United have been in discussions with Spurs over Townsend for much of January after the 24-year-old fell out of favour at White Hart Lane and Sky Sports News HQ understands he will finalise personal terms and undergo his medical on Wednesday.
Having already signed Jonjo Shelvey and Henri Saivet for a combined cost of £17m this month, Newcastle look poised to spend again in their bid to escape relegation.
Townsend was dropped by Tottenham for two weeks in November after a bust-up with fitness coach Nathan Gardiner and has not featured for the first team since October 22.
Fellow academy graduate Josh Onomah has since overtaken Townsend in boss Mauricio Pochettino's plans and he has been playing for the U21 side to keep himself fit.
The 24-year-old turned out for Ugo Ehiogu's team in Monday's 2-0 defeat against Liverpool in Chester.
Afterwards - fuelling speculation a departure was imminent - he tweeted: "Been an absolute pleasure playing with the U21 boys the last 3 or 4 months."
On Tuesday the Tottenham academy graduate then tweeted a picture of the gates of Spurs Lodge with the message: "Emotional... #16years".
Townsend made his Tottenham debut in a Europa League 5-0 win against Hearts in Edinburgh in August 2011 after a series of loan moves.
He made only seven appearances before he was loaned out again to Leeds then Birmingham and also spent time at QPR in the 2012/13 campaign.
That spell at Loftus Road was a springboard back into the Tottenham squad and his England debut followed against Montenegro in October 2013.
Having made 91 appearances for Spurs including 38 as a substitute and won 10 caps for his country, it looks as though Townsend could now be on the move again.
