Southend have signed former loanee Stephen Hendrie on a two-year deal with an option of a third season with the club.
The versatile Hendrie impressed at Southend during the 2015-16 season after joining on loan from West Ham.
The Scotland Under-21 international made five appearances for Southend, scoring his first senior goal at Shrewsbury, and had another loan spell at Blackburn last season.
Hendrie, 22, told the official Southend website: "I'm buzzing to be back.
"I enjoyed my spell here last time and last season I kept a look out on the results and it was frustrating to just miss out on the play-offs.
"I can't wait for the season ahead and hopefully we can go one step further.
"I'm glad it's all sorted ahead of the start of pre-season. I'm looking forward to getting fit, meet all the boys and get going again."
