Crewe have signed Cardiff's Semi Ajayi on loan until January 5.
Announcing the deal shortly before Thursday's deadline, the Alex have moved to recruit another defender in Ajayi after George Ray broke his ankle in Tuesday's 3-2 win at Colchester.
Ray is set for around three months out, while Crewe captain Harry Davis (knee) is still a number of weeks away from being ready for his return to action.
Ajayi joined Cardiff from Arsenal over the summer, and although he is yet to make a senior appearance for the Welsh outfit, he did play five times for Wimbledon in a loan spell earlier this season.
The 22-year-old is available to make his Crewe debut in Saturday's home clash with Oldham.
