Midfielder Connor Hammell has left Sky Bet League Two side Carlisle by mutual consent.

Hammell, 19, came through the youth ranks at Brunton Park and signed a one-year professional contract last summer.

After making three appearances last season he was sent out on loan with Penrith but has now been released by Carlisle without featuring for them this term.

Manager Keith Curle told the official website: "Connor is a hard worker and we all wish him well as he moves on. He's struggled to break into the first team reckoning with us and we've had a chat with him with a view to giving him time to work on his next step.

"He will be now able to look at the options available ahead of what will be a very busy period of players being released. A lot of players up and down the country will be faced with the same situation in just a few months time so this puts him in a position where he can be out there ahead of that happening.
