Sheffield Wednesday have signed teenage midfielder Charlie Hayford on a one-year contract.

Hayford, 19, was released by Tottenham last month having been with the Londoners since the age of four.

"This is a massive football club and one that would appeal to any young footballer looking to make his mark in the game," Hayford told Wednesday's official website.

"I have no qualms about leaving the south for the north as this is a club and place that really appeals."

Hayford's arrival follows that of fellow teenager Jordan Thorniley, who signed a one-year deal with the Sky Bet Championship club on Saturday following his recent release by Everton.

"I feel I learned my trade with Everton and now I am ready to go to the next level," said the 19-year-old centre-half.
