Newcastle defender Macaulay Gillesphey will remain on loan at Carlisle for the rest of the season.
The two clubs have reached an agreement for the 21-year-old to stay at Brunton Park on a third half-season loan deal, to keep him with Keith Curle's team until the end of the current campaign.
Gillesphey, who has featured as a centre-half and a left-back for Carlisle, initially joined the Cumbrians on a short-term loan deal in September 2015 and that quickly turned into a season-long deal.
He rejoined the Blues for pre-season in July and has so far made a further 22 appearances this season, helping Carlisle start 2017 in the automatic promotion places in Sky Bet League Two.
"We see ourselves as very much a part of Macaulay's medium and long-term development," Carlisle boss Curle told the club's official website.
"He has some excellent attributes and he's shown us recently that he has versatility and adaptability by playing in a role which is unfamiliar to him.
"He has an excellent range of passing and he's learning more and more every day, which will only stand him in good stead.
"We like working with him, he likes working with us, and he knows he has more to give.
"He's getting game time in a team which is competing for success at the right end of the table.
"I've said it before - he has the potential to be a very good player and we're pleased to be able to play a part in bringing that out."
