David Cotterill says Birmingham City have waited until Deadline Day to tell him he can leave the club.

Birmingham have been active in January, with new manager Gianfranco Zola bringing in four new permanent signings during his first transfer window in charge of the club.

The Blues are understood to be close to adding Watford winger Jerome Sinclair to their list of incomings, with the player undergoing a medical at the club on Tuesday, and his arrival may have paved the way for fellow wide-man Cotterill to depart the club.

And Cotterill, 29, sarcastically claimed on Twitter that Birmingham have left him very little time to find a new side.

"The look when you get told you can leave with 24 hrs left of the transfer window," Cotterill said.

Cotterill was a key player for Birmingham under previous manager Gary Rowett, and has made 27 appearances for the club this season, including in their most recent fixture against Norwich last weekend.

The Wales international may now be set for a late move as the window draws to a close though, with Birmingham seemingly deeming him surplus to requirements.
