Barnsley have been given permission to speak to St Mirren's Stevie Mallan after the clubs agreed a fee of around £300k for the midfielder, according to Sky sources.

The deal for the 21-year-old also includes potential add-ons and a sell-on clause for one of St Mirren's most promising young players for some time.

Mallan's performances and 11 goals have helped keep the club in the Scottish Championship and they hope he will stay at the Paisley 2021 Stadium, but they are realistic about the player's desire to move on with his career.

Mallan made his debut for St Mirren in November 2014 and has played 112 times for the Saints, scoring 29 goals.

Mallan's first ever strike for the club was a brilliant solo effort that began from inside his own half; voted goal of the season at the 2015 PFA Scotland awards.

Barnsley finished 14th in the Championship under Paul Heckingbottom this season and are moving swiftly to try and bolster their squad ahead of next term.
