Aston Villa have activated a release clause in the contract of Hull City's Ahmed Elmohamady, Sky sources understand.

The player is returning from Hull's pre-season tour in Portugal for talks with the fellow Sky Bet Championship club.

If the deal goes through it will be the third time that Steve Bruce has signed Elmohamady, having previously brought him to Sunderland and Hull.

Elmohamady was one of Hull's key players last season, with the 29-year-old playing 41 times for the club.
