Burton captain John Mousinho left for Oxford during a late flurry of Deadline Day moves at the club.

Mousinho, who helped Burton to back-to-back promotions in their rise to the Championship, made over 100 appearances for the side but moves to Oxford in order to further his career; a switch manager Nigel Clough admits is a fair one.

"We said to John that if he had the opportunity to get a longer contract with a club which was also further south and that was the best thing for him then we wouldn't stand in his way," Clough said.

Mousinho was joined out of the exit door by fellow defender Damien McCrory who moved to Portsmouth on loan until January.

Despite a pair of departures, the Brewers made two signings themselves, bringing in Rochdale midfielder Jamie Allen on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Burton's final piece of Deadline Day business saw Tottenham striker Will Miller join permanently following his successful loan spell last season, and Clough is excited to see the young forward improve further at the Pirelli Stadium this season.
