Southampton have had a bid of £25m for Quincy Promes rejected by Spartak Moscow with the Russian club wanting £30m for the Dutchman, according to Sky sources.

Promes is keen on a move to England and Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino has previously confirmed the club are "pushing" on a deal to bring the Dutch winger to St Mary's before Wednesday's transfer deadline day.

Promes would become Southampton's second signing of the window after they brought in Guido Carrillo from Monaco on Thursday for a club-record £19.1m, but any deal for Promes would eclipse that fee.

Promes has scored 53 goals in 101 Russian Premier League appearances for Spartak after joining them from FC Twente in August 2014 for a reported £12m.

The 26-year-old, who is under contract in Moscow until June 2021, was key in Spartak's league title win last season and was named the Russian Premier League footballer of the year for 2017.
