Barnsley have signed Christoph Knasmullner from Admira Wacker on a two-and-a-half-year contract for an undisclosed fee, while experienced defender Matt Mills has also joined the club.
Austrian central midfielder Knasmullner has been in impressive form this season, scoring 12 goals in 18 appearances, including a hat-trick in the 4-2 win over ASK Linz in September.
Knasmullner began his career with Austria Vienna and has also had spells with Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, although he failed to break into the side at either team.
But he has impressed on his return to Austria with Wacker, scoring 24 goals in 89 appearances in total for the club.
Mills joins Knasmullner at Oakwell after he left Nottingham Forest by mutual consent earlier on transfer deadline day.
The 31-year-old scored six goals in 72 appearances for City after joining from Bolton in July 2015, with his last game coming in the 1-0 home defeat to Aston Villa on January 13.
