Experienced striker Noel Hunt has joined Southend ahead of their Sky Bet League One campaign.

Last year's League Two play-off final victors have agreed terms on a one-year contract, with the option of another 12 months, with the 32-year-old former Reading and Ipswich man.

Hunt, who has represented the Republic of Ireland on three occasions, has also played for Leeds, Dunfermline and Dundee United and his brother Stephen Hunt was at Hull when current Shrimpers manager Phil Brown was in charge there.

In quotes published on Southend's official Twitter feed, Brown said: "He was top of the list of targets. We had a list of strikers and Noel came on our radar through Eamon Collins - his agent.

"He's played the majority of his career in the Championship. I've worked with his brother at Hull City.
