Harry Kane helped Tottenham to a comprehensive 4-1 London derby win over West Ham on Sunday.

The England international struck twice, while Spurs defenders Toby Alderweireld and Kyle Walker also got on the scoresheet.

Manuel Lanzini grabbed a late consolation for the visitors but it was an impressive day's work for Mauricio Pochettino's men.

Here we pick out five talking points from White Hart Lane...

Kane: King of the capital

Kane went into Sunday's showdown with West Ham with the best goals-per-game ratio in London derbies in Premier League history - and then enhanced his capital gains with two more thumping efforts to fire Spurs to victory.

The Tottenham striker found the net in the north London derby against Arsenal before the international break and backed that up with a goal either side of half-time against the east Londoners.

Those strikes make it 12 goals in 14 Premier League London derbies for Kane - or 0.86 goals per derby. No player who has featured in more than 10 such fixtures has done better.

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry comes closest with a ratio of 0.73. His 43 goals in 59 games make him the top scorer in the history of Premier League London derbies.

Hammers missing Payet

This was West Ham's first game without the injured Dimitri Payet and such has been the influence of their summer signing, the impact of his absence was felt.

However, for West Ham boss Slaven Bilic, being without Payet was no excuse for losing 4-1 to Tottenham. "We knew before the game that we were going to miss Payet. Of course we were going to miss him. But we didn't lose 4-1 because Payet wasn't playing," he said. "We have enough quality to replace him."

Payet - who has been ruled out for three months with an ankle injury - had been involved in 35 per cent of West Ham's Premier League goals this season, more than any other player at the club. When he limped off against Everton he had created 47 chances, more than any other player in the league aside from Arsenal's Mesut Ozil.

We knew before the game that we were going to miss Payet. But we didn't lose 4-1 because Payet wasn't playing.

The job of filling his shoes fell to Manuel Lanzini, who was deployed in the No 10 role behind Andy Carroll. A well-taken consolation goal in the final minutes demonstrated his quality and his 24 completed passes in Spurs' half was more than any other West Ham player.

But, in truth, Lanzini had limited impact when the game was still alive. A large part of that is down to the impressive work of Tottenham's midfield. He'll hope to find more time on the ball in the Sky Live home game with West Brom next weekend.

Jamie Redknapp and Scott Parker assess Harry Kane's two goals against West Ham and discuss what he brings to Tottenham's forward line

"They're like a pack of hyenas, always trying to stop them playing," said Jamie Redknapp when describing Tottenham's pressing game. It was a feature throughout the contest and Hammers boss Bilic conceded afterwards that his side were unable to cope.

Former Tottenham and West Ham midfielder Scott Parker pointed out that the high line held by Spurs' back four facilitated the high-energy closing-down runs made by the hosts' midfield and attackers.

"The back four are working as a unit - and that comes from hours on the training field, the coach working with them and drilling them into bringing the play up and condensing it," he explained.

You haven't got any time to lift your head up. Spurs are on you, pressing you, making it uncomfortable for you. Nobody wants to play football under pressure.
Jamie Redknapp

"That's the key part of why Tottenham can go and press teams so high. If not, you're going to get picked off. Tottenham were playing a real high line. But they can afford to do that because they've got the likes of Kyle Walker, Danny Rose and Jan Vertonghen who are quick, quick defenders."

Redknapp believes Spurs' tactics undoubtedly hindered the creative ability of the likes of Lanzini. "If you're a West Ham player, you're always on the ropes," he said. "Every time you're getting the ball you haven't got any time to lift your head up. They're on you, pressing you, making it uncomfortable for you. That's what Tottenham do so well. Nobody wants to play football under pressure."

Slaven Bilic says Tottenham were the better team in every department

Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City... West Ham's list of big away wins this season is hugely impressive. But, after losing at Watford, their second away defeat of the season will be hard to take.

"It's a special game because it's a derby game against Spurs," Bilic told Sky Sports. "To be beaten by them 4-1, in a game we can't say we were unlucky in, it hurts more."

West Ham scored first in all three of their big away wins this season but, 2-0 down at half-time at White Hart Lane, showed little sign of getting back into the game. They finished with just four shots on target. Spurs had 12 - no team has had more efforts on goal in the Premier League this season. It was Spurs' biggest Premier League win over West Ham since their 4-0 victory in March 2009.

"When they scored a goal it just lifted them and we went down," said Bilic. "To be fair, they were way better than us. We're a good team when we're totally focussed. But tonight it wasn't the case. We were second best and very, very bad."

How high can Spurs go?

Mauricio Pochettino expressed his pride in seeing his Tottenham side's progress on display in their 4-1 rout of West Ham

Tottenham's win over West Ham makes it 12 games unbeaten in the Premier League. They haven't lost since their opening day 1-0 defeat at Manchester United. While three points on Sunday didn't move them up a place in the table, it does mean they are just two points off Arsenal and Man City - teams which have occupied top spot for periods this term.

So, how far can they go? Next up is Chelsea at home on Sunday. Another London derby. The fixture comes after Spurs' Thursday night trip to Azerbaijan to play Qarabag in the Europa League and they will have to do without the suspended Dele Alli. It will be a stern test of their top-four credentials - and a great opportunity to put further distance between themselves and last season's champions.

Mousa Dembele has challenged Tottenham to push for Champions League qualification

"Next week is a huge game for Spurs," said Redknapp. "If they beat Chelsea they go 13 points ahead of them - and almost put Chelsea to bed in terms of getting top four. But if Chelsea were to win it's still all on from their point of view.

"They're a very good side, Spurs, but they're not ready to win the league yet. They'll have spells with young players of dips in form. I think they're more than capable of getting into the top four, though."
