The scout reports...

Connor Wickham is already regarded as one of the finest prospects in English football. The Sky Sports Scout now checks out the Ipswich Town starlet. Wickham has only just turned 17, but whilst many footballers his age are hoping to break into the reserves, he is already a firm fixture in Town's first-team squad. The Colchester-born striker stands at a strapping 6ft 3in and is already a dominant figure. He was already starring for England's youth side before he was handed his Ipswich debut. His Town debut came in April last year against Doncaster to become the club's youngest ever player. It did not take him long to register his first goal for the club as he scored a brace later that year in the League Cup against Shrewsbury Town. He has managed 10 starts for the club and now has six goals to his name, and it is little surprise that a host of clubs are now tracking him. Indeed the speculation is similar to that which surrounded Wayne Rooney when he too made his first-team bow aged just 16. Many onlookers are comparing Wickham to Rooney, but that comparison is not really accurate as they are very different in style. Wickham, although skilful, is very much a target man, and although good in the air he is a wonderful finisher. Indeed his clinical finishing is his main attribute and what has seen him accelerated into Ipswich's first team. A move with a loan back is now being suggested with the likes of Tottenham and Sunderland said to be leading the chase.

The scout says...

If as reported Wickham could be sold, and loaned back then that could be the most beneficial thing for him. Premier League football at this age looks a bit too much, but his progression has been rapid over the last 12 months and if he continues at that pace then the chances are he will be playing in the top-flight as a teenager.
