The scout reports...

Taxiarchis Fountas has only just turned 17 but he is already a firm fixture in AEK Athens' first-team. The diminutive winger is already attracting a great deal of interest from around Europe, we check on Greece's new starlet. Fountas has been playing football since a very early age as he joined his local club Acheloos Neochoriou aged just six. He quickly progressed and was spotted by former Olympiakos player Giorgos Asprogerakas - who took him into his own academy. His progress continued and he was spotted by AEK Athens legend Toni Savevski - now manager of Omonia Nicosia, but in 2010 was scouting for the club. Savevski was hugely impressed with Fountas and despite being just 14, he begged the club to snap-up the young winger - which they did in the summer of 2010. His progress continued at a pace and he was soon called into Greece's Under-17 squad where he shone. Nicknamed by his AEK youth colleagues as their own 'Xavi' it was little surprise when he was fast-tracked into the first-team. In March this year he made his debut at the tender age of 16, coming on as substitute at Asteras Tripolis. Now under Vaggelis Vlachos he has emerged a first-team regular, but his role is yet to be defined. Full of pace and trickery it would be easy to assume he is an out-and-out winger, but he has been used a number of times in central midfield as he has very good vision and passing. He still has a huge amount to improve and learn, but he is packed full of potential.

The scout says...

Fountas has the scouts flocking to Athens and it is little surprise, he has a lot offer. If his progress continues, it remains to be seen how long he will be allowed to continue his footballing education in Athens.
