"In a whole range of sports, it has shown that anything is possible," Caven told Sky Sports.

"It has opened people's eyes in any sport across the world that you can be an underdog and still do amazing things. They were 5,000 to one to win the league.

For sport in general, it's been an amazing, uplifting thing.

"When you look at our sport of darts, you've got your favourites, but anybody on any given day within the top 30 in the world can beat anybody, and I'm no different in that belief.

"I've beaten all the best players before, so there is no reason why not just myself, but anyone can achieve great things. For sport in general, it's been an amazing, uplifting thing."

"That's the pinnacle the World Championships. It's the one that everybody wants," said Caven.

"At the end of the day, there is only one person that can win it each year. It's hard to do I'm sure, but I'll give it everything I've got and with Leicester's achievement this season, it gives me something to really go for.

The Premier League of Darts is heading towards an exciting finale, with only two weeks of the regular season remaining, and Caven has backed six-time winner Phil Taylor to emerge triumphant on finals night at The O2.

"Van Gerwen is obviously the world No 1 and he's playing phenomenally well at the moment," said Caven.

"All kinds of records with his averages. But Taylor is coming back into form. He's been playing really well and I have a feeling that Phil will win it, if I'm honest."
