Rod Harrington said it was nice to see Adrian 'Jackpot' Lewis "finally show up" and perform at his best as he held Michael van Gerwen in Brighton thriller.
Lewis nailed a stunning 170 checkout before snatching a point in the deciding leg of a quick-fire contest against world No 1 and reigning Premier League champion Van Gerwen.
Lewis hit scores of 174 and 177 to set up doubles for 13-darters as he moved into a 3-1 cushion. Van Gerwen then landed a 116 finish before Lewis took out 170 in style to delight the capacity crowd at The Brighton Centre as he moved 4-2 up.
An 11-darter from Van Gerwen featured six perfect darts as he hit back, and he levelled at four-all and five-all before he then secured a minimum of a point with a 14-darter. The Dutch ace missed the bull for a 170 finish of his own to allow Lewis in on double 12 to share the spoils in one of the great Premier League matches.
Sky Sports' darts analyst Harrington was left drooling over the standard of darts and praised Stoke-on-Trent thrower Lewis for finally producing darts which saw him become a two-time back-to-back world champion.
"Absolutely superb game and it was all about whether Adrian Lewis was going to turn up and he finally turned up," two-time World MatchPlay champion, Harrington told Sky Sports.
"It was nice to see a bit of emotion from him because in the last few weeks he's looked lethargic and not as if he wants to be up here, but he really wanted that and in the early part of the game he was the one who had control.
"The 170 was unbelievable - what a great time to do it - but Michael van Gerwen does what Michael van Gerwen does so well, he doesn't doubt himself and carries on.
"For me, that one point for Adrian Lewis will actually be worth more than a point because he's taken a point out of Michael van Gerwen, which not many people will. And getting rid of Michael van Gerwen early on will help him when we get towards relegation or promotion."
