The Druids Nephew will skip the Betfred Grand National Trial at Haydock on Saturday in favour of the BetBright Chase a week later.
Neil Mulholland's nine-year-old, who was in the process of running such a big race in the National itself last April until falling on the second circuit, needs decent ground to be seen at his best.
With the Grand National weights announcement imminent, Mulholland is keen to get the Cheltenham Festival winner going again
"He won't go to Haydock, the ground won't be suitable at all," said Mulholland.
"It's a big thing for him, he needs a decent surface.
"Instead we'll wait for the big Kempton race, where it should have dried up a bit by then.
"The National weights come out this week so whatever we do there can't be affected, we can get him rocking and rolling."
