A trip back up to Ayr in the spring for the Scottish Grand National could be on the cards for last year's runner-up Alvarado.

The 12-year-old was beaten just under three lengths by Vicente in the four-mile feature last year.

Alvarado also finished fourth in the Grand National at Aintree in both 2014 and 2015.

Fergal O'Brien's veteran returned to Merseyside for the Becher Chase last month, but crashed out at the second fence and the trainer expects his charge to need some time to get over that tumble.

He said: "Alvarado had a bad old fall at Aintree and he will tell us when he is ready to run.

"The plan is the National but there is always the Scottish National for him if he doesn't get into the other one."
