Newcastle off Fontwell inspect

Sunday's meeting at Newcastle has been abandoned due to a waterlogged track while Monday's meeting at Fontwell is subject to a further inspection at 8am on Sunday.

Officials at Gosforth Park initially announced a precautionary check for 8am on Sunday due to the threat of frost, but the inspection was brought forward to 10am this morning following further rain overnight

Clerk of the course James Armstrong said: "We had another eight millimetres of rain overnight, which wasn't forecast. The wind changed direction, coming in off the east coast, and it's rained on and off for most of the night.

"We're forecast a few showers today and it just isn't going to improve enough, unfortunately."

Monday's meeting at Fontwell is subject to a further inspection at 8am on Sunday.

Clerk of the course Tracey O'Meara announced an initial check for 10am this morning and while there remains standing water on parts of the course after further rain overnight, officials are keen to give the National Hunt programme every chance.

Fontwell has sustained 116 millimetres of rainfall since Boxing Dy.

A statement issued by Fontwell's executive read: "Today looks to be dry and breezy. Tomorrow is due to be dry and cold.

"Monday looks to be predominantly dry and cold."
