Friday's National Hunt meeting at Haydock must pass an inspection on Thursday at 4pm with parts of the course frozen, but officials remain confident the meeting will go ahead.

Clerk of the course Kirkland Tellwright felt it prudent to call an early check but temperatures are due to rise.

The going is currently soft, frozen in places, after a frosty start to Thursday.

Tellwright said: "I'm confident we'll race but we've gone through it painstakingly and felt it best to let people know where we are.

"We're not fit to race at the moment but we expect to pass the inspection later.

"It might be we then call a precautionary inspection for the morning but I couldn't call this one precautionary as, at present, we're not raceable.

"We're fully expecting to race but I just wanted to let people be aware of the situation."
