Fran Berry hopes to be back riding work early next month as he continues his recovery from a fractured foot.

Ralph Beckett's stable jockey sustained the injury at Lingfield in October when his intended mount The Bear Can Fly became unruly and pinned his foot between herself and the bar of the stalls.

He is making good progress and hopes to be firing on all cylinders for the start of the turf Flat season.

He told sportinglife.com: "My last scan in December was good. I still have a boot on the foot and will get a follow-up scan and meet the specialist again next week.

"All being well after that, the plan is to lose the boot and I can increase my rehabilitation programme at Oaksey House. I hope to get back riding out for Ralph in early February and be race-riding again by the end of the that month. It would mean I'm fully ready for the start of the turf season."
