David Simcock is eyeing a crack at the Tattersalls Gold Cup with Algometer, should the ground be suitable for the Curragh event on May 28.
Simcock had planned to start the grey off in the Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket this weekend, but he will not risk the Archipenko colt on fast conditions.
"He's good, he doesn't show a great deal at home but he had a particularly good year last year, albeit he didn't run particularly well in November in Munich. It was probably too late in the season," Simcock told At The Races.
"He looks in good order, but he's just waiting for rain. The ground would be too quick at Newmarket so he could go to Ireland at the end of the month.
"What he really wants is soft ground which slows the others down and his stamina comes into play. When that is the case, like when he beat Dartmouth (at Newbury last September), albeit getting weight, he looked very good and hopefully there's a few more days like that to come.
"He's exuberant in the morning but he's a lazy workhorse, you can never get to the bottom of him."
