Almanzor is expected to return to the fray next month - but Royal Ascot looks to be off the table.

Last season's star European colt, trained by Jean-Claude Rouget, still holds an entry in the Prince of Wales's Stakes at the Royal meeting but connections are instead likely to aim him at a Group Three at Chantilly.

Almanzor won five races on the bounce last season, including the French Derby, the Irish Champion Stakes and the Champion Stakes at Ascot.

The Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe remains his big priority this season.

Sylvain Vidal, racing manager for owners Ecurie Antonio Caro, said: "Jean-Claude said he is doing very well at the moment.

"The plan at the moment is to run in the Prix la Coupe at Chantilly on June 17 but I don't think he'll be going to Ascot, it will come too soon.

"Later in the year the plan is to step him up to 12 furlongs and aim him at the Arc."
