Michael Bell intends to step Ronald R up to Pattern-race company for the first time in the Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes at the Qatar Goodwood Festival.

The Newmarket handler has pencilled in the mile Group Three prize on August 4 as the next target for the three-year-old, provided conditions are suitable.

After finishing second in the Britannia at Royal Ascot, the son of Nathaniel finished down the field when sent off favourite for a Listed event at Newmarket's July Festival on his last start.

Bell said: "Ronald R is going to have a go at the Thoroughbred Stakes. He blobbed at the July Festival having run well in the Britannia, but we are putting that down to the ground.

"He will definitely not run if the ground is not fast."

Bell hopes to have unbeaten filly Main Desire back in action next season after issuing a positive update on her recovery from a leg injury.

The two-year-old was ruled out for the remainder of the season after meeting with the setback shortly after her Listed victory at York in May.

Bell added: "She has had six screws put in her hind leg and she will be fine. She won't run again this year, but she is going to be fine next year. The vets are very happy with her progress."
