Bristol De Mai is likely to wait until next season before he attempts running over three miles.
Nigel Twiston-Davies' grey bagged his first Grade One over fences in the Scilly Isles Novices' Chase at Sandown recently.
He had been in the mix for the three-mile RSA Chase, but connections have since stated his target at the Cheltenham Festival will be the JLT Novices' Chase over the intermediate distance.
Anthony Bromley, racing manager for owners Simon Munir and Isaac Souede said: "It was a slight risk running him back only two weeks after Haydock but he'd shown no ill effects and didn't show any in the race.
"It was a really encouraging performance. It's hard for novices to win four times in a season these days, but he has managed it already, whatever happens at Cheltenham.
"The ground at Sandown wasn't actually that bad. He's certainly not just a mudlark as he showed at Aintree last year he's effective on good ground.
"He must have a great shout in the JLT, which is definitely where he'll run.
"I don't doubt that next year he will stay three miles, but I don't see a need to try him over it this season, especially as the RSA is such a gruelling race and he's only five.
"He's got enough pace for two-mile-five and (Sandown) decided it for us."
