Trainer Tony Curran is at a loss to explain Flemenstar's disappointing display in Saturday's Ascot Chase.

The multiple Grade One winner headed for the Berkshire circuit seemingly in fine form having won at Leopardstown over Christmas before finishing second in the Tied Cottage at Punchestown, but finished down the field in a race dominated by Silviniaco Conti.

Flemenstar has endured problems travelling to Britain in the past, however, and Curran wonders whether that may be the reason for his abject performance.

"He is home now and he seems fine. We were disappointed, we thought he'd run better than that," said the trainer.

"There is no obvious reason yet but we are getting him checked out. He seems 100% at home.

"All I can think of at the minute is that he didn't travel (to England) well. We will give him a few weeks off now and see how he is. We will make a plan for him then."
