Andrew 'Chubby' Chandler says he is keen for Nathan Evans to keep the ride on Hoofalong in the Stewards' Cup after he partnered the Mick Easterby-trained six-year-old to victory in the William Hill Scottish Sprint Cup at Musselburgh.
The six-year-old, whom Chandler owns in partnership with top golfer Lee Westwood, feels both horse and rider, who claims 5lb, have come a long way in a short space of time.
Chandler said: "Both Hoofalong and Hoof It will go to the Stewards' Cup at Goodwood.
"Hoofalong came out of the race well - it was a bit of a punt going back to five furlongs, but he showed his versatility, as he stayed on really well. We've always thought of him as a six-furlong horse, so now we have a few more options.
"We want to keep young Nathan on him. He made a bit of a mistake and left the hood on him coming out of the stalls a while back, but we've always thought a bit of him, so it's great to see he's turning into a really good jockey. He rode a superb race on him and we're delighted for him.
"Hoofalong isn't an easy ride. He's a bit of a nutter, who has reared coming out of the stalls in the past, but Michael has done a lot of work with him. He won off a mark 26lb higher than when he last won on turf and he's improving no end."
