Roger Varian on Intilaaq, Ajman Princess and King Bolete

Roger Varian plans to have Intilaaq back on the track at the end of July as the colt bids to redeem his reputation after a below-par run in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown.

The four-year-old was sent off the 5-4 favourite but finished a well-beaten sixth behind Time Test and subsequently scoped dirty.

Varian has ruled out the Princess of Wales's Stakes at Newmarket's July meeting next week but is looking to either the Steventon Stakes at Newbury on July 16, which he won in 2015, or the Group Two Sky Bet York Stakes a week later as a first port of call.

"He is doing well but he will not run next week in the mile-and-a-half Group Two at Newmarket," he said.

"I am happy with him and he could be back in time for either the Steventon Stakes or the York Stakes at the end of July.

Varian has yet to map out a programme for Ajman Princess after the filly's excellent run in finishing second to Even Song in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The daughter of Teofilo has now been runner-up in all her four starts.

"She is in good form but we have not got a race plan for her yet. She ran a good race in the Ribblesdale and is a nice, promising filly," said the Newmarket trainer.

"She is still a maiden and is still improving. Hopefully we can get her to win a maiden and then a stakes race with her."

Varian has to review the options for King Bolete after not declaring the four-year-old for the Old Newton Cup, for which he was ante-post favourite, because of the prospect of soft ground at Haydock on Saturday.

"He doesn't want soft ground, so we had to scratch him at Haydock which is a shame. We will have to have a re-think where to go with him," he said.
