Tollbrae was always held in high regard by former trainer Nicky Henderson but had his quirks and may have been freshened up by the switch to the stable of Howard Johnson, so he gets the vote over Christopher and Galway Breeze. The selection did little wrong in a farce of a race for his new connections when beaten in a sprint finish by Ferdy Murphy's useful looking French recruit Haute de Gamme and off the same mark he looks worth a bet to open his account for the Johnson stable. Top weight Kadoun got no further than the second fence on his reappearance at Lingfield last month and is probably best watched, while useful hurdler Spectrometer continues to disappoint over fences. The Philip Hobbs-trained Christopher ran with promise on his return behind Black Frost at Haydock and has to be respected along with last months Wetherby winner Galway Breeze, although a 7lb higher mark today leaves the last mentioned with more to do. Lucinda Russell has had a good season so Glenfarclas Boy cannot be discounted in a race that is taken to go to Tollbrae.
