In depth

Verdict

Kavachi has the proven form in handicaps having won a 1m2f contest at Folkestone last month but a 3lb rise for that narrow success leaves him with more to do and preference is for the handicap newcomer Gone Gold, who gets the vote ahead of another debutant in this grade Galactic Star. The selection has improved with each start and was good value for his win at Hamilton on good to soft ground last month. Jeremy Noseda could hardly have his string in better form than at present and he is taken to follow up here. Don Pietro could probably do with some help from the handicapper, while Sgt Schultz is hard to recommend on recent evidence. David Wintle's Yakimov ran creditably in a Chepstow claimer last time but this looks tougher and a bigger threat may come from Galactic Star. Sir Michael Stoute's colt has, like the selection, improved with each start and has to be respected on a surface that suits but Gone Gold has solid claims of giving Jeremy Noseda another winner and he gets the vote.
